I grew up in a family owned garage business ( Wm G Evans & Sons Ltd ) in the town of Nobleton, ON. My father and his father were both mechanics and naturally, I earned an interprovincial motor vehicle mechanic's licence not long after graduating from King City Secondary School in 1982. We sold used cars and lawn & garden equipment, so that was my early introduction to being a salesperson. The business was sold in 1983 and I continued to work in the automotive trade through the eighties.
In 1989 I decided I wanted to move in a new direction and joined Superior Propane. The 13 years I spent with them was very evolutionary for me. I performed nearly every function there is in the operation of a propane facility from a plant operator up to and including acting branch manager. Among the numerous positions I held, I spent 5 years in inventory management where showroom and retail sales of appliances and parts was a large part of my responsibilities. During that time I also facilitated all of the training for 80+ employees for internal programs as well as industry related records of training (ROT's) and licences. While with Superior Propane I achieved a certification as an LP-G1 Gas fitter and became a recognized trainer for the Propane Gas Association of Canada.
